April 8th : FLEE

The 2022 PROXY Spring Series of outdoor cinema continues on Friday, April 8th at the PROXY Community Walk-in Theater with:

FLEE

Directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, 2021 [PG-13]

The PROXY Spring Series presents a special pre-screening conversation with Palestinian refugees from Gaza, photographers and journalists Jehad al-Saftawi and Lara Aburamadan. They will share their exile experience, ways of finding familiarity in the new place they call home, and the work of their nonprofit, Refugee Eye.

“All over the world, people are forced to flee their homes. If they’re very lucky, they might resettle in a place where they’ll be able to live some kind of better life. But that doesn’t mean the trauma subsides. By the end, it seems telling his story — saying it out loud in a safe space, at last — may have helped Amin heal a bit more. Perhaps sharing it with audiences opens the same space for others, too.” – Alissa Wilkinson, Vox

Amin Nawabi’s life has been defined by his past and a secret he’s kept for over 20 years. Forced to leave his home country of Afghanistan as a young child with his mother and siblings, Amin now grapples with how his past will affect his future in Denmark and the life he is building with his soon-to-be husband.
